Darklight plays on the visual perception of light.  The smoked grey acrylic front and base give the illusion that no light can come from within.  The custom made, brushed steel, contact switch turn on the light and the darkness is illuminated.  The surface can also be used to write messages or notes in a black, whiteboard marker pen, which can only been seen when the light is turned on.  The shell is made from a composite of plastic and cement formed in a male-female mould, to give the an aesthetic of concrete but the strength of plastic.
